If you follow me on instagram, you probably saw this outfit on my feed a couple days ago! I got a lot of comments/questions about my accessories, so I wanted to break it down a little for you!
My absolute favorite thing about Fall is being able to layer, and accessorize. You can turn a basic dress into a picture perfect Fall look with just a couple accessories! For this dress, I added some over the knee boots, my fave Gucci belt, and a black floppy hat! I call this the “fashion blogger starter pack”, because if you follow a fashion blogger or two (or 15), this is an outfit you’ll probably see a hundred times by the end of Fall.
What Style of Dress?
To start, you’ll need your dress, obvi! You can go for a solid color, or a print! It’s really up to you, provided you will be able to belt it! I personally love a good fit & flare for this look, but a shirt dress, sweater dress, or A-line style would look great too! A dress that already has a defined waist is perfect, and easy to belt! I would avoid shift dresses, because the extra fabric at the waist makes them difficult to belt! Be careful with empire waist dresses as well. They are typically fitted right under the bust, which is not the most flattering place to wear a belt.

Over The Knee Boots
Over the knee boots are my favorite thing about Fall fashion, hands down. They are so flattering, and they make your legs look extremely long! They look good with just about everything, and give any outfit an easy upgrade. Definitely a fashion blogger favorite! I personally prefer a boot with a pointed toe, but that’s just me! I went with black boots here, just to go along with my other accessories. You can choose any color that looks good with your dress!
If you’re familiar with my blog, you know that I am obsessed with Marc Fisher shoes. I bought these boots last year, so they’re out of stock, but I highly recommend any other Marc Fisher boot! I have several pairs in different styles, and I love them all. They don’t slide down my legs while I’m wearing them, which I know is a problem with some other brands! If you’re unsure, try ordering a pair from Nordstrom. Their return policy is amazing, so you won’t get stuck with boots you don’t 100% love!
Floppy Hat
This is a must have accessory during the Fall! It looks chic, and hides your hair when you skip wash day! What more could you ask for? If you don’t really know how to accessorize, this style of hat is perfect for you! You can throw it on with most fall outfits, and it’ll totally pull your outfit together!
Gucci Belt
This was at the top of my “wants” list for months before I finally caved in and bought it! I saw it everywhere, and love how well it goes with so many different outfits. It’s just one of those classic “fashion blogger” pieces! I like how it looks with dresses, this one in particular. It splits it up nicely, giving your eyes something to look at in the middle of the dress.
Ok…I realize not everyone wants to spend a ton of money on a Gucci belt. This was definitely a splurge purchase for me, and not something I do all that often! You can totally get the same look with a dupe, and your wallet will thank you for it! I don’t own the dupe, so I can’t speak to the quality, but it has good reviews, and definitely looks the same!
