Leopard Print & Plaid
If you’ve checked out my instagram lately, this blog post is probably not a surprise to you! I’ve been loving the combination of plaid, and leopard print!
Mixing patterns and prints can seem scary and intimidating, but once you have the right formula, it’s super easy! Here are a couple tips that I find helpful when mixing patterns, like plaid and leopard print!
Tip 1:
If you’re new to mixing patterns, I suggest breaking them up a bit. For example, I wear the plaid on the top half of my body, and the leopard print on my feet! This way they aren’t overwhelming to the eye, and don’t have that messy, unpolished look.
Tip 2:
Break up the prints with something solid/neutral! When you’re wearing prints at either end of your body, it’s important to break them up with something solid, and neutral in the middle. Denim works perfectly! It won’t be competing for attention in the look, leaving the spotlight on the patterns! Black pants would also work nicely, and a neutral toned dress would be so cute.
Tip 3:
Stick to the same tones! Most leopard prints are going to be warm tones, so you will want your plaid to be warm toned as well. This way they will compliment each other, and not clash. Whatever patterns you are using, they will look 100x better together if they are both warm, or both cool tones!
Tip 4:
Pair a small print, with a large print. If you look at the photos below, you will see that the leopard print I am wearing is a very small, fine print. The plaid on the other hand, is a much larger pattern! It is easier for two patterns to look cohesive when they are not the same size.
Don’t be scared!
In all honesty, mixing patterns is nothing to be afraid of! Just give it a try!
